    The Retro Game Thread

Do you yearn for your Commodore 64 games?
Hanker for your rubber-keyed ZX Spectrum?
Or maybe you were a little younger and were part of the Sega/Nintendo wars?

I was playing this yesterday, 23 years after it's release:

Unfortunately I'm old enough to of actually played Pong when it was released.
I can clearly remember being blown away that I could actually move things on the TV screen !!
A black n white TV at that

After that, the Atari VCS 2600 ruled.....and then Space Invaders and Donkey Kong in the local arcade... GREAT days.

    Re: The Retro Game Thread

Was watching a documentary about a year ago about the two dudes who designed the first Pong machine put it in a bar for a trial. The next day the bar staff phoned them up to take a look at the machine as it was broke... they found that it was overflowing with quarters and could not accept any more money - nuff said

I never owned that one myself - had to borrow it off someone from school.
I did have pitfall II though and completed it with the maximum score ... took a long while though!!

    A few other 2600 classics:

    Re: The Retro Game Thread

Some proper classics there!. Loved Xenon & Speedball on the Amiga.

My only inclusions would be :

BBC Micro - Elite, Repton (1, 2 & 3), Yi Ar Kung Fu
    Sega Megadrive - Space Harrier

I was quite good at games when I was a kid, I'm totally useless on the consoles now (despite owning a PS3 and the Mrs has a Wii), and I usually can't get off the first level! - I wonder if the excuse "they don't make 'em like they used to" is plausible enough?!

    Re: The Retro Game Thread

I've been all into the Sega vs. Nintendo war back then (Sega won for me ).

Being a bit older now, my reflexes aren't as they used to and I'm currently working on a side project where I enhance emulators with the possibility to rewind any game at any time during gameplay.

Already released is Gens+ REWiND! 1.0, the popular Sega Master System / GameGear / Genesis / 32X and SegaCD/MegaCD Emulator enhanced with the said rewind feature.

    Teaser Video:

Super Mario Kart on the SNES for me, addictive when playing with multiplayer. People still play SMK on the DS, but, I prefer the SNES version because it's the original and much more simple.

I my Amiga and ZX Spectrum emulators. The warm feeling of nostalgia as Cannon Fodder booted on WINUAE, being skewered by a bamboo trap on Rick Dangerous or just loading up the workbench and drawing a big willy with paint. Eee, it takes me right back it does.

I used to hammer 'Stallone: Cobra', 'Total Recall' and 'Short Circuit' on the Spectrum. Playing them now it seems impressive what they could manage with such limited resource.
