I've turned on the 'region free' thing if that's what u mean, but that didn't help.
Indeed, but I think the main problem I had was not understanding exactly what was involved - once I'd watched those youtube vids & had all the files, it made more sense.
I thought I just installed the homebrew channel & could burn a dodgy file to dvd & get that to play it..... how wrong was I
The basic steps involved are:
Install the Homebrew channel.
Install the software needed to hack the Wii.
Hack the wii.
Install Apps.
Download dodgy games, put them on a suitable drive & play via the usb (via the apps in the Homebrew Channel).
If you follow the steps in those youtube vids, you'll be fine - but if your pc is away from your wii (like mine was), there will be constant running up & down the stairs.
And some stuff you will need before you can proceed:
Check which version of Wii you have - load it up, wii settings & it should be displayed at the top - mine was 4.3e (and is now 4.1).
A 2gig SD card (not SDHC) - I used an SD adaptor with a micro SD card that I had in my missus NDS - bare in mind that this will be a permanent resident within the Wii once complete to play the dodgy games.
One of the games to install the hack - I used Lego Indy. (This is needed for the version of Wii I had - the older games like Zelda wouldn't do it).
All files needed can be grabbed from those youtube vids in the description![]()
It depends how old your Wii is and which Firmware you have when u start to hack it tbh
If it was bought after 2009 or Red or Black Wii they say that those models can't read backup DVDs and you have to use a USB loader (altho I did 1 for my sis last summer that willl read disks with Neogamma so I dunno how true that statement is tbh lol)
If you've updated to 4.3 then you need to do a hack with Lego Batman, Lego Starwars or Lego Indiana Jones before you can install the homebrew channel
Modify ANY Wii 4.3 & below - GBAtemp.net
ModMii is great tool for downloading all the files you need, copying them to an SD card and taking you through the setup process.

When used in reference to consumer electronics, "brick" describes a device that cannot function in any capacity (such as a device with damaged firmware). This usage derives from the fact that some electronic devices (and their detachable power supplies) are vaguely brick-shaped, and so those which do not function are useful only as actual bricks
Well a couple of weeks ago I found Lego Batman in Tesco for £11, so I finally bit the bullet, bought the game and softmodded my Wii, fk me I wish I'd done it years ago, but I was always a bit paranoid about fking something up tbh. I used Guide: Softmod ANY Wii for a guide, well written and easy to follow. It was a doddle tbh, had a bit of a freak out moment half way through when the Wii stopped reading the SD card, but after about 20 minutes it occurred to me that this was the first time in 5 years my Wii had ever seen an SD card, and the SD card slot was full of dust, lol, after giving it a good blow out it was reading the card fine again. Took a good couple of hours (best to take my time and not rush through it I thought) but everything went smoothly and I know have a fully working softmodded Wii.
Btw, in that guide it gives you a program (forget what it's called) that can change the internal settings on the Wii to block all disc/internet updates to the operating system, so it will never update again (really need to do this).
I went and bought a 1TB hard drive and copied all my tunes onto that, then formatted my old hard drive to WBFS (you can use FAT32 or NTFS, but apparently WBFS is less likely to cause errors because it is the Wii's native file system). Got a m8 up the road who modded his Wii years ago, so I borrowed his hard drive and cloned it (took 7 hours ffs) so no now I have 170 Wii games on my hard drive and the kids are actually playing on it again![]()
