I have an xbox, but would be very cautious about getting it chipped.. especially if you want to play on line, think microsoft bans anyone with a chipped box (if they detect it). just googled it and there seem to be vids on youtube explaining how to do it.

Here's some info and key words to google about the latest hack, the reset glitch hack
Xbox-Scene News: The Xbox 360 reset glitch hack - New Homebrew Hack!

The standard way has been to flash (program) the HDdisc drive to read copies but newer revisions of consoles make that harder to do. As a work around there's a hard drive adapter being released soon that allows you to emulate an optical disc drive (search the link above for ODDE or optical disc drive emulator) to run copies. If you've got a 360 with an old dashboard (7371 or older) then you can JTAG the console to run homebrew software like custom dashboards, emulators, game loaders and games from your hard drive or an external USB drive (like the reset glitch hack).
Which ever option you go for MS will most likely spot the fact you've modified the console if you go on XboxLive and ban your console. There are stealth options for going on xboxlive but it's a constant cat and mouse game and not worth the effort imo altho I know people who do use copies on live who just buy another console each time 1 gets banned and sell the old 1 as a banned console or keep it for offline play.

Exactly what hippie said. If you're wanting it purely for offline play then go for it, otherwise its just not worth the agg. Too much messing around every other week for my liking.

Oh i know Lee will chip em - chipping ems the easy bit. Keeping yourself not banned off xbox live is down to you....thats the bit i can't be arsed with. Thought plenty about getting a chipped box purely for offline play - especially nowadays when theres only the odd game or 2 that i play online.

Also heard plenty of horror stories of people flogging "locked" boxes on ebay and then doing one - unscruplulous bastards

Yeah the kids has 2 of them so the idea is to have a chipped one and a normal one.
