So what happens now? I really can't see the Bin lids wanting the twitch to go before end of season. I also doubt they'd want him named before then either, so a part time/caretaker role is probably out.

Saying that, having Arry taking over just before the first whistle of the WC ain't a bad idea. Might well have that new manager syndrome that happens in the league all the time.

Lads this whole affair has turned your national Team into a laughing stock now.

I was listening to some Argentinian, German, Italian & French football correspondent's bemused/ amused reactions to the affair on Sports talk radio here in Dublin last night.
'Only in England do the media pick the national team & hold the captaincy in such high regard' was the common theme coming from all of them.

I reckon England will never win anything with the FA & media you have over there.
Perhaps a nation the size of England doesn't have the divine right to be a contender at every World Cup or European Championship. The expectation placed on Rooney, Gerrard & co every 2 years is unfair and evidence suggests they (like most of their predecessors) are neither robust or educated enough to cope. You should at least make a semi final/final each 3rd or 4th tournament like comparable European nations of size (Italy, France & Spain more recently) do though.

the size of the country is irrelevant look how big a country italy is. it's the money that goes into english football that would make you think they should have a chance of wining a tournament or doing much better. they say it's the best league in the world and as some great players, the cash generated in england is crazy and it's not being used to produce home grown talent like spain have done. the problem being even with all the cash going in it's a quick fix mentality and instant results are expected so the young english players get overlooked for stars in other leagues.

the pride in playing for england as gone also, who the fuck is rio ferdinand to turn down being the captain ? in my book he should never play again but that's what 130k a week will do to a player... so fuck him!

on your lot having a laugh on the radio chuckle it up because what we do will always be more talked about than anything going on over there. it must be like when i lived in glasgow and callers just want to get on and bash england, which would be fine but your know spain yourselves.

england will rise to be a good football team but it's going to take years, the old players and pensioners at the fa will need to make way first!

Yes because our English Managers have done such a great job so far

While I didn't like the bloke I am on his side here in that the FA should have no say on who is in the team and who wears the captains arm band. That is the choice of the Manager, not a bunch of overpaid fat blokes sat round a table worried about corporate sponsors.

Agree with everything u said cept this. The only reason Rio said no is coz Capello didn't have the bollox to tell him in person that he was giving it back to JT - shocking man management. Guarantee you if Psycho or Harry or anyone else asked, he'd snap it up

What a farce - FA bloke saying it was an "amicable step down" and the resignation meeting ended "with a handshake" ... but Capello has already gone back to Italy, probably with a nice bung to keep him quiet.

I don't think it really matters who's in charge - the players always mess it up anyway.

Lets give the job to Hacker T. Dog...

You're sort of missing the point- Italy and England are the same size in so far as they have similar sized populations (50odd million people each) but the former has the more successful record at World Cups/ Euros etc. Spain has a slightly smaller population (40odd million) than both despite being larger in area. Slight pedantic of me but there you go!

Also pumping money into something doesn't necessarily make it work better. I do agree that English young players are being overlooked for cheaper imports though- perhaps they should move abroad and get playing time abroad? You know, broaden the old horizon's and improve their knowledge of the global game. Certainly worked for some of the Spanish & French lads over the last few years..

Finally, It wasn't 'our lot' laughing at England but correspondents from Italy, Argentina & France- countries of similar size to England (again in terms of population ) bemused/ amused by the latest predicament to befall your national football team. Having lived in both the UK & Ireland I can tell you that the Irish mainstream radio/ TV/ press tend to have a more global view of the game then their UK counterparts- despite an obsession with Premier League over here. We don't have the smaller neighbour sniping syndrome the Scots seem to revel in, so the perceived England bashing you speak is probably just a feature of the media up in that part of the UK.
I will admit that we DO get a giggle out of the unwarranted sense of arrogant entitlement displayed by some of the English Media & players before each tournament kicks off however- 'bigging' themselves up before the now, sadly, inevitable ignominious exit

i know very little about footy, seeing as i find it boring, but i agree with the F.A in so far as john terry shouldn't be captain. the bloke is a shit role model.

In November 2005 Terry was accused of cheating on then-fiancee Toni Poole in a public car park. trouble for Terry as England's captain spurned a 50p-an-hour public car park yards away in favour of dumping his black Bentley in a spot for disabled drivers outside Pizza Express in Esher, Surrey.

in December 2009 Terry was accused of taking £10,000 from undercover reporters in return for a private tour of Chelsea's training ground.

In August 2002 Terry wept with relief after being cleared of attacking a nightclub doorman with a bottle.

except those points i have obviously googled, he has been accused of what i saws to be blatent naughtiness.

a role model should be fault free. look at beckham. the only shit thrown at him was the rebecca loos affair. oh wait, that invalidates my whole argument......
