Re: Does anyone here like cricket?

I tried really, really hard to get into the cricket when I was a teenager, but I just find it so dull.

And all those cliched paintings/phrases about a village green with men in whites playing a gentleman's game, can't beat the sound of leather on willow, etc.

If anything's a bad advert for the English being snobs and looking down their noses at everyone, bloody cricket is.

To be fair I did go to a 20/20 game last May but after an over ended up in the Guinness tent B-)

Yeah, I looked at my post and thought that it was a bit harsh - places like Asia & Australasia it's more of a communal thing and part of every day life.
I was going to say that it's only the English who treat it as the sweater-around-the-shoulders brigade, but you've countered my point eskimo

ATEOTD it's just not my cup of tea, but then again I like tennis (Check out a decent thread <here> and snooker

Ha ha, theres still a bit of that ie; all that old Nazi's at Lords with the MCC and there arrogant, snobbish attitude. Mind you the Indian Premier Leauge has shat on that a bit though... Rock stars owning cricket teams ... only on the sub continent... then again Mick Jagger is partial to a bit of a knock!

Tennis is similar when it comes to wimbledon (though I don't really get on with either tennis or snooker... I'm shit at both so that might be something to do with it!)

I personally love cricket...I grew up with my Dad teaching me to bat and bowl - my Dad also played in the Central Lancashire leagues, against the likes of Joel Garner, Curtley Ambrose and Carl Hooper before they went on to have professional careers for the West Indies!

The old cliches or images of old people dozing at boring elonagated cricket with staid-talking Yorkshire Boycott blocking the next 50 balls is totally outdated....the game is slicker, meaner and more aggressive in all formats. The 2005 Ashes has to rank as one of the best series, perhaps one of the best sporting contests of the Norties to date...it had everything, thick with drama, tension and great climaxes - not to mention Flintoff and Pieterson in fine form - both during and post-Ashes! And England's win in the 2009 series was no mean feat either....being over here in Oz, I also get to watch the Aussies host anyone who tours, so if cricket's on, I've usually got it on.

    I don't like cricket....OH NO! ...I love it!!!! :p

We made it look easy. In all the years i've watched the game i've never been as confident as i was today that we were gonna beat their total. Usually waiting for the mid-innings collapse!!
