I've got no issues with teams spending big money - its the way of the game now - but to go and spend for the sake of spending, or more to the point, to stop your rivals getting players, thats just soooo wrong. How many top-class central midfielders have they got ffs? Why did they need Da Silva when they already had Johnson, Wright-Phillips and until he rightly kicked off, Bellamy (who was their best player last year by a street)?

Rafa had money to spend and he liked to spend it - but to his credit he shipped out as many as he bought and it was always to try and improve what he had and not to saturate his squad. Shame he was so crap at it really.
