I think if I went out for a run I'd be chucking up after about 500 metres. :ymsick:Originally Posted by waard

sorry chaps i missed your replys on this. to be honest i just walked into jjb and got some http://www.newbalance.com/running/footwear/WT1110/ the people working in the shop looked about 14 and were more interested in texting each other X( anyways chaps i am going to start with a 2 mile run near my local golf course and see how i go with that. what is a pronator ?Originally Posted by Danril
You have neutral runners, pronators and supinators (sp).
A neutral runner will wear out their trainers down the middles as they put their weight in th e middle of their feet. A pronator will tend to put their weight inward slightly and a supernator outward.
See here.
If you've bought shoes for a pronator and you're a supinator you can really hurt your feet.
Best to go to a speicalist running shop to find out what you are and what you need. New Balance tend to be neutral so with a bit of luck you'll be sound.
going off the link you sent i am 'neutral'my uncle is a fell runner in a club around pendle so i will give him a phone to make sure i am doing all the things you have suggested danril
. one more thing mate do you time your sessions to improve your times ?
I run varying distances and when I get into the long ones I tend to be able to go faster on the shorter ones. Did 10m this morning, first time I've done it in a long time and am 6.5mins off my PB for it but it will stand me in good stead for my shorter runs. You can try fartlek training, which is when you have bursts of speed periodically during the run. Fartlek is Swedish (or some other Nordic language) for 'speed play'. I haven't done any of this for a good while because I've been injured on and off most of this year and am basically just trying to get the miles in my legs to be able to do the Leeds Half on May 10th. Speed isn't the main issue for me ATM and it's fair to say I've been in better condition than I am now but then I have been badly hit this time with my injuries so overall I'm pretty happy with being able to do the 10 miles this morning. I'm optimistic I'll do the Half Marathon now and there are no time targets for me, although I do want to come in under two hours for definite.
Google fartlek training and also look up cadence.

Think I might go out for a wee run now. Did 4m yesterday but was still a bit fatigued from the 10 miler Saturday and then big cycle Sunday I think.
A quick 5 miler, just to keep the cobwebs off!
doing the volvic challenge of drinking 1.5 ltrs of water a day does that count![]()

Ha ha!
I suppose!
Only did 3 miles. This ankle support is rubbing my foot a bit and I don't want a blister so I've packed it in after 3. Will have to get some compeed plasters in. Dear, but good.
I used to frequent the gym twice a week but I've turned into a lazy bastard of late, I will get back into it though as my belly isn't a good look![]()
Done 11 miles this morning, pretty tired now and in need of a nice relaxing shower!
5 days to the Leeds Half now. Need to start looking at the route on maps, apparently some major hillage at miles 3 & 6 but once you're past halfway it's mostly downhill. Apart from that last killer hump heading into the Headrow right at the death, which is also part of the Abbey Dash! Not a good way to end it!
Mainly keep fit by being a fanatical Mountain Biker for the last 17 years although don't do the miles I used to do. Sometimes hit the gym when the weathers bad. Just started Scuba diving and lugging the heavy equipment around is taking the place of the gym. B-)

I have a mountain bike myself, only a Rockhopper so nothing too extreme. Love it though.
Right I'm back from the Leeds Half this morning.
Alas I think it may have been a bit soon for me after my injuries and I limped the last three miles and have a very sore right leg now. Don't know my exact time yet but it's going to be ~1:56ish. I'm quite pleased, all things considered. I had plenty left in the tank, the leg just wasn't having it though.
But it's done now, I'm feeling quite pleased with myself and am now off to have a shower, some snap and then am going to have a few well earned beers!
Well done mate. :ymapplause: I need to get my arse into gear, starting to get a bit of a gut!!!Originally Posted by Danril

I have just entered the Sheffield 10k in September now.
Toying with going for a gentle jog this afternoon when I get home. Will see what the weather is like. My foot is still a bit sore though so might be best to hang fire a couple of days.
I'm on it!!Originally Posted by waard
