Working towards My 2nd Dan Black Belt - Kickboxing![]()
Booked in for a sports massage tomorrow on my calves and lower legs generally. Hopefully they'll relieve some of the tightness I'm having and will help me and my recovery. I should also get some good advice on stretching specific to my problem.
£30 for 50mins but hopefully it'll be worth it. And I get to leave work early too! Almost worth it for that alone!
I've started this early and will continue to up the process as deemed necessary:-

I'm doing the three peaks challenge at the beginning of June for charity!!!!!![]()
The 3 peaks is not an easy task. Not done it myself but know quite a few who have.
I'm on it bigtime now fella's,Just been for the first of many many jogs in the coming months, years, ages etc.. I'm back in the gym now too! No smoking,no beers,no no no,just plenty of oatmeal, fruit, veg & freshly squeezed orange juice!![]()
Well that massage was a f*ckign experience, I can tell you.
Not an easy one, very uncomfortable indeed. Especially on the injured leg, it was at times sheer agony. However, he found my problem without me pointing it out and was optimistic he'd been able to make good ground with it. I'm optimistic that I'll be back to my best soon and I reckon once I start training again I'll go have another session at least.
Not cheap but he knew what he was doing and he was a sound guy as well.
But shit me, it hurt!
Fitness drive starts again Monday, no beer for a month at least now from the 3rd. Will be boring sure but will do me good and I have some good fitness goals this time.

Shame it's so icy out there, there's no way I can go running in this weather and from the sound of it there is more snow coming tomorrow!
-7.5degC this morning round my end according to the motor as I drive to work. Bit parky.
I had my first proper work out for years today (press ups, sit ups & weights) & I'm looking forward to doing it again tomorow aswell![]()
I started weight training when I was 14 & kept fit for years but since my late 20's I got very lazy in that department. The thing is now I'm in my 30's I'm very unfit & I've started to get a bit of a belly so it's time to sort it out! I shall be going for a good run tomorow & intend to do so every other day as well as working out with my weights every day![]()

Went for my first run of 2010 today. Not really done much since I got injured in late November and then all the snow. My 4 mile course was still treacherous and I damn near killed myself! I was way off the pace too.
SO! I've entered the Leeds Half today for May 9th 2010 and now have something to train towards. Coupled with this month off beer that I may extend I'm hoping to beat last years time convincingly seeing as I tweaked my calf close to the day and couldn't give it my best.
Good to hear your going for it in 2110 Rog. [respect] I myself have been on a mad fitness 1 recently. It definately makes you feel so much better in general, even if it is a pain in the arse.Originally Posted by Rogue_D
Worth it though.Good luck Rog stick with it.

Yep it is a pain in the arse & I felt totally fucked for a good half hour after my sesssion earlier & I know my stomach especially is gonna be sore in the morning but it has to be done! I wanna be able to take my top off in public this summer without feeling concious about my body so that's my goal!

Run after work tonight. My mate Greg is coming with me. Greg is a total freak at running, the man can run like fúck. Probably a side effect of him getting chased by every guy at school 'cos he was a mouthy shÃÂ*te!
Running with him is bound to make me faster. Legs a bit tender after yesterday, almost two months without training has taken it's toll on me. I'll get back into it soon enough though.
I've just finished my work out with my weights & I'm totally fooked! Have been doing it for 3 days now (for the first time in years!) & my arms, chest & stomach are a bit sore! I reckon I'm gonna rest tomorow & get back on it Thursday! Besides I'm going for a birthday drink tonight so I'll probably be too hung over tomorow anyway!

Rest day today after doing a 7 miler yesterday. Well and truly back on the running now and 23 days now since a beer. One more weekend to go and then I'll have a few beers 6th-7th February weekend and then quite possibly back on the wagon.
Great thread, running is so addictive.
I have been running for about 6 years (having had a gap of 10 years after I left school where I was a cross country runner and 1500m track).
What got me started again was a thought I still had it in me – when I was at school I could do 1500m in 4:50. I went on to a grass track and did 1500m in 8:30, I could not believe how unfit I was.
So I started running, just a few hundred meters, stop, walk a bit and go again. In a few weeks I was up to 5 miles and totally addicted to running. I spent the next six months doing more and more and I got talked into doing a 9 mile road race (the Norton 9). The week before the race my shins started hurting and I was unable to do the race.
I continued training and entered the Askern 10k, my first race and I did this in about 45:00. That put me out for a year (shin pain). Really pissed me off. Went to see lots of specialists, got no better.
I then got talked in to taking part in the South Yorkshire Road League as a guest for Doncaster AC, who I later joined in about 2006 (best thing I ever did joining a running club).
I tend to get injured often, I always have a cold bath after all runs otherwise the shin pain comes back.
I try to put in 35 – 40 miles per week although I am still recovering after tearing my left hamstring 4 months ago after running around the Chatsworth Challenge (advertised as 25 miles, my garmin said 26 miles) long distance walk. Took me 4:15, it was so hilly (all off road) you almost had to crawl up some of it, did my hamstring on the steep downhill bits.
I compete in 5k, 5 mile, 10k, 10 mile, half marathon, 30k and I plan to do a marathon this year.
I also do Cross Country.
Races I have got coming up are (I recommend them all if anyone can get to them):
Ferriby 10 Mile
Stamford 30k
Norton 9
Wakefield Hospice 10k
Sheffield Half Marathon
Possiably Dewsbury 10k
A great place to record your training and races is the Fetch website.
When is the Dewsbury 10k? Is it early March? I seem to have an inklingit's around then.
I'm signed up for the Leeds half in May and would like to maybe do something before then. Sounds like you're a bit faster than me though fellah. You definitely do more miles as well! I did ~18 miles last week and at my peak training only ever got up to about 30 miles pw.
Never been past the half marathon but done a few 10k's as well. Sadly suffered with injury since I had to stop the Abbey Dash after ~2m with a torn calf and not done much since then at all. Just started back training again last week and I've lost a lot of fitness and probably put a bit of weight on.
In my only ever half to date I'd pulled my calf 3 weeks before which hampered me on the day and I ended up limping the last few miles home. Got 1:55 that day and want to beat that this time and hopefully go sub 1:50 this time. At the moment I have absolutely no chance!
Edit: Just checked and it's a week on Sunday! 7th Feb.
Can't do that one, my first Saturday night out for 6 weeks is planned for the night before and I'll be in no fit state.
Well I've been working out for just over a week now & it's getting easier by the day. My muscles are not sore like they were this time last week, & I'm gradually increasing the amount of repetitions that I'm doing which is good. I just can't wait 'till I've been doing it for a couple of months & can actualy see the difference. On the downside I still havn't started going out running yet so I'm expecting a bollocking from waardThe thing is my mate keeps saying that he'll come with me but always changes his mind saying he's too knackered after work! I guess that's a bit of a cop out really but atleast I'm doing something. One step at a time eh
