So whilst your thinking about what your doing either the race would have already started or you would have been tackled.

I just hope I continue the training after I've done it mate, as this is the best I've felt, in myself anyway, for years.

I've now got a chest infection to shake off, with only 11 days to go!!!!! And with me being asthmatic they normally knocks the fuck out of me!! Hopefully, with how much fitter I am it won't get me. Only time will tell!
Gym is on the backburner for a few days in the hope I get ok!! Luckily, I walk over 6 miles in the 8 hours I'm at work, due to me now being seconded to management level for 3 months (at least), toing and froing onto the shop floor then back to the goods-in admin office!!!!

Good luck Branners, how could you not keep it up mate, find another challenge to motivate you.

Waard, sounds like you have a good training plan.

I did the Sheffield Half in 1:25:02, which was 4 minutes quicker then last year, I finished 72nd out of something like 4500. Really pleased with that. I need to do 1:22 to get on to my running clubs all time top 10 so that is the next aim.

I have done the South Yorkshire Road League 5 mile road races getting a new PB of 30:39 for 5 miles. I really want to break 30 mins this year (6 minute miles).

I have got another 5 mile road race on Wednesday this week, then on Sunday a 10 mile off road race, then on Wednesday next week the Askern 10K. I will be in a bit of a state after the 10k and have a couple of days off to recover.

I highly recommend joining a local running club, I put it off for years, it is great to run in a team.

You really are an elite runner fella. My ambitions are little less grand! Sub 1.45 for the half will do me!

There are a few running clubs near me. Longwood Harriers are probably the best known. I kind of feel a bit stupid though, as you have seen my times aren't the best. Still though, I think I came 900th out of 4,000 runners so there are plenty slower than me too I suppose.

I wish I was an elite runner, I am ranked about 10th at my club as a Senior Man. At my club we have got a Vet 55 runner who can thrash me in any race and a Vet 65 chasing me. I did 11.6 miles in the sun this morning (I am buzzing) and the boys and girls who I ran with today talked me in to a 15 mile run tomorrow so that will be fun.

The Askern 10k was this week, I did a new PB in 38:42. My previous PB was 38:50. Just to give you an idea of the standard of our club runners, the first to finish did 35:46 and the last to finish did 57:43. Lots of our runners are yet to break 2 hours for the half.

The winner of the Askern 10k was non other than Andrew Pearson who is from Longwood Harriers, give them a chance for a couple of weeks (it took me years to join club, best thing I ever did). I am sure you will find the have many slower than you.

Re: The Keep Fit & Workout Thread

Andrew Pearson also won the Leeds Half, sandriderman! By about 5 mins too, IIRC.

At the moment I have been instructed to have 3 weeks off because of a groin strain but I don't think I am going to do it. I will just run a little easier and stop some of my other stuff for a few weeks. I don't think I could do 11 miles one day and then 15 the next, my legs would be too tired. I've not done more than 5 miles since the Leeds Half, will probably get a 7 miler done at least once this week though weather permitting (I just can't run in the heat, it kills me).

Nice one, another runner! Not been since Saturday morning and I'm definitely coming down with something so I doubt I'll be going out tonight either.

F*cking headache is a right pain in the arse.

Still keeping myself ticking over with 2 or 3 jogs & a few visits to the gym a week.Going to get myself a mountain bike also & start cycling on short trips rather than getting in the car.
I have to take medication for life to control my cholesterol & the docs are constantly on my case telling me to diet properly & to exercise as much as possible.Plenty of exercise makes you feel so much better within yourself. At first i hated it & couldnt be arsed but now i actually quite enjoy it.

Really poor week last week, attempted 3 runs, no energy.

Much better tonight, did 800's on the track in heavy rain - felt good.

Think I am going to concentrate on speed work for a few weeks and try to blast out some 10k and 5k races.

After a track session last week I have got three tears in my left hamstring. Back into recovery mode again (hate stretching which is why I always get injured).

I'm strill struggling slightly with my groin injury. I'm supposed to rest but I can't help but go for a couple of 5 milers a week. I HAVE to, it's like I'm throwing it all away if I don't!

I got it better but had a relapse doing press ups (strange how that can strain the groin) so I'm not doing any sits, presses etc at all until I feel zero discomfort in the groin. It's not bad when I run.

Leeds Half today again. Been poorly with cold the last week but got round in 1:43:34. Nearly 4 mins quicker than last year. Next year, if I don't get cold and stay fit, I want to go sub 1:40.

My buddy Greg got round in 1:32. The twat!

Since giving up the class A's, then the weed, I decided to start getting fit a couple of years ago. I also gave up alcohol 16 months ago.
I hav'nt got time to go to a gym, so I do everything at home.
Most of my stuff is in a tiny brick shed, attatched to the side of the house.

I can do quite a lot of different excersizes with the bench, 2 sets of barbells, 3 sets of dumbbells, pullup bar, pressup handles and ankle weights
I weigh about 80KG and bench press 76KG at the moment, my goal is to get to 100KG bench eventually, although my age is making it harder lol (42 soon).
I cycle to work, and have a very energetic job too, so hopefully I can fight off the old age for a while yet !
EDIT : Before somebody days 'thats only 62KG of discs on the barbell', that pic is about 1 year old and I have a fair bit more on it, as well as much more on the sets of dumbbells, I should get a new photo tbh ..........
