    Retrospective red cards?

After the Merseyside derby last week between Liverpool & Everton the redcard recieved by Rodwell was overturned by a committe, rightly or wrongly thats up to you ? so he wont serve the match bans as are normal after a sending off. My question is this, how about a panel taking into consideration tackles / fouls / incidents that were "missed" by refs during a game that should have been a red card or caution and maybe giving the appropriate match bans or cautions accumulation for a player.
I know alot of you guys dont follw the beautiful game, but after last week and the following procedings I thought I could perhaps start a discussion on what others thought...over to you

It won't happen anytime soon as the old farts at the FA can't be arsed to implement changes to a game that is currently more successful revenue-wise than at any point in it's history.

Have you watched Mike Bassett? The portrayal of the FA in that film pretty much sums it up....

you make a good point mate the truth is the fa are to lazy to do it and wouldnt let a independent body deal with theses types of descions , if its in the refs match report then it gets to the fa to look at if its a high profile game as the liverpool everton game , i argee that it would be a good thing but its all about money and the fa would claim there to skin and busy to judge ever debateable desion in a game

Interesting. So what you're saying is have a Dubious Goals panel for fouls. So would it be the clubs that put forward incidents or would it be down to this panel to watch games & decide for themselves?

To be honest this is all put to bed much easier than setting up commitees - video ref. I can't imagine it would have taken much longer to get the replay sorted than it would of to get Rodders off the pitch on Saturday.

As the fiddler said the Fossil Association won't have any of it unless there's a blatant earner to be had so this is all pie in the sky. The one little thing (and imo it really is little) - let.....in fact insist on the refs being interviewed after games. Yeah they'll get abuse but i bet there's a ton of refs out there that have been clucking to tell their version of an event but the boys upstairs have gagged them.

Anyhoo if any of this was put in place, it'd give us cock all to talk about between games - especially during International breaks

It wouldn't work, there are far too many tackles and stuff to take into consideration. Revoking a red card is fine but not sending people off a few days after the match.

I like the game as it is - it does desperately need goal-line technology though IMO.

The F.A. are sort of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but to be honest stelarge mate the point of having a panel to look at stuff the ref has missed would counter the point of having a ref at all and is totally pointless.

What annoyed me last week is that Mick McCarthy had the ref after the game and the ref said "I didn't like to guess" on a decision that lost Wolves the match. Mick McCarthy then said to the press without the ref there to defend himself and his colleagues "well he did guess, he guessed wrong!"

I think the refs have a hard job of it as it is and the poor decision in the Rodwell sending off is only highlighted because it was a Merseyside derby.

Would it have been splattered over the back pages if it was a Fulham vs Norwich game?

Surely you have to take some of the refs' bad decisions with a pinch of salt?

Good points all round there, but I think its a bit ridiculous to have a system to overturn a redcard and not one to give one retrospectavely. Thats the main point im getting at

But there is. Plenty of players have been cited for off the ball incidents - elbows etc, after the game. But as has been said you can't pull up every single tackle after the event because it may or may not have warranted a card.

if they made the players play in big soft slippers they wouldn't hurt the other players, then there would be less red cards, It's a half serious point,

Another point on refs is that some are more lenient then others and this in itself would need to be sorted before anything could be done. But again this would make the game a little less interesting.

Part of the match is discussing good and bad decisions by the referee - but at the end of the day in my opinion the referee's decision is final (even if it's the wrong decision) - it's all part of the game Plus players and managers need to man up and just accept the decisions

The only thing which could work as Dodders has already said is the Video ref - where if the managers or players didn't agree with a decision by the ref, it could be sorted at the time by the video ref and his/her or their decision would be final

    Exactly this.

I'm all for the revoking of the reds though and goal line technology but nothing else. Taking away the "human" element of the game would just ruin it.

Just watching the France Wales game & the Taff captains been sent off for what most thought was a reasonable tackle in the first 10 mins. Not a huge rugger fan anymore but to me it looked liked a hard but fair hit.

Anyhoo they start reviewing it at half time. My other half (loves her footie & knows her stuff) turn round & said "I've never understood why they can't review red cards at half time"

I've never heard this even been entertained as an idea before but i'm feeling it. Again it could only be applied to card situations but how many games have been ruined by an early sending off? At least the ref has then got a chance to level the playing field again for the remainder of the game.

    Good girl is my missus

I think the only technology should be applied to goal-line disputes.

It's no good reviewing a red card to see if the player had any malice in the tackle - how does a video define that?

Not the point i'm making. Take the Rodwell tackle. Ref goes in at half time, gets informed by some other offical that he was wrong, Rodwell comes back out for 2nd half. Undermining the ref? - probably - but he's gonna get called a cock by everyone for the original decision anyway - might as well get it out the way on the Saturday afternoon than let it drag out.

I strongly disagree with technology, apart from goal-line, maybe not even that as that opens the gates to all technology. Basically football has been practically the same format since it started. Just because technology exists doesn't mean it should be used. The referee is there to "referee" the game, that's his job. If he proves to be shit at it get someone in who is competent, not a computer.

Yep, point taken. Although there's decent shouts there for not dragging a decision out and the ref is undermined, a player coming back on at half-time after being red-carded... big call mate, tad silly in my eyes

Arr, no doubt she knows more about footy than I.

Actually, off topic, what does she think of your help in pushing the HCB? Text or ring pal

they will not want any decisions to made ater game and them not to take blame for any wrong decisions itz easier to leave with the ref to take the flak
