What Are You Reading Right Now?

This is a thread to tell your fellow members what you are reading.

Be it a book, Magazine, Paper ect ect.

At the moment I'm reading a book called "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy (He's the author of No Country For Old Men) and it's about a post apocalyptic world and a father and son's survival.

It's been made into a film and I think that film comes out in October 2009

    No, can you believe it

I always found reading very boring. My father and sister are massive bookworms and are never without a book. But when I was in college, I got a job at a petrol station working nights to earn some pocket money and I decided to get a couple of books because it was so boring sitting there all night reading the paper and listening to the radio. I found I loved it so much and I am now reading everything I can. Love it.

Re: What Are You Reading Right Now?

    Nah, not reading Razzle really...

I'm a Sci-Fi buff, anything Spacey, or with Orks, Goblins, etc. Or anything factual, generally not Autobiographies, but, stuff like Black Hawk Down, Band of Brothers etc

Just finished Brinzingir the third in the Eragorn series (film also), and generally getting through a book every 2-3 days...!

Love reading, specially seen as how when the wife says I can't multi-task I can point to the reading/bog action and ask what's that then...!

    :ymapplause:

    In the last 2 weeks;

    - Killing Pablo (the autobiograpgy on Mr Escobar)
    - Football's Greatest Chants
    - Brizinger
    - The Harry Potter (6 & 7) (1-5 the week prior)...

Finished Brizinger this morning and now wondering what too pick up...

To all you avid readers there, what your book collections like then? I've a fairly large stack of stuff, but, only authors/books I really like and will read time and time again...

And honest, I do read that quick...

    don't go there.
CR - with reference to our pm the other week, here's another scenario. Again, the bingo table halls. But all of us reading our books with an IAOOS bookmark. Don't make eye contact, DON'T MAKE EYE CONTACT!!!
    Then the posting starts:

    "What chapter you on branners?"
    "17 - where's selwyn?"
    "At the bar"
if any of you guys are totally perplexed liked this (even though I know Mark is now laughing his head off), I'll gladly explain...

more seriously, I finished reading Bobby Robson's autobiography shortly before his death, making it even sadder for me

Re: What Are You Reading Right Now?

Frick, just folded a flush, anyway,..

Prob got about 100 or so in the house currently, Raymond E Feist, Dan Brown, Tom Clancy, Stephen King, David Eddings, James Herbert, Robert Ludlam, John Grisham, Stephen Ambrose (Band of Brothers, Tolkein, Harry Potters, Horus Heresy (Warhammer 40k, 9 books just there), loads of tiologies and stuff, anybody that reads like any of these as well......

And pretty much complete sets of all books...

Often just buy something cause the cover looks goos

I've maybe another 100 or so in the garage (don't have the space inside), Graphic Novels (Judge Dredd!!) and all sorts really...

Had to get rid of a load when we moved, they went off to charity shops, don't think they were too impressed by given how thumbed they were...

I'm actually now in the process of having to replace books that I've got cause backs are broken, pages are missing...

Actually, if anyones reading Harold Coyle, or, has any they want shot of let me know... he's out of print now but had a fairly decent set of books of his that I made the mistake of lending out to never see again...

One question, how many books does it take before you get "bored" with that author? For example, avidly read everything by Tom Clancy up and until The Teeth of the Tiger, thought that was rubbish and never looked at anything else he's done, same again for example with Grisham, all the way to the Broker and then thats it, rubbish, not read anything he's done since...

Seems after a while some of these writers lose the act of writing if you know what I mean...

Re: What Are You Reading Right Now?

Recently read Clavell's books in chronological order:

    Shogun
    Tai-Pan
    Gai-Jin
    King Rat
    Noble House
    Whirlwind

Debating at the moment whether to start Frank Herbert's Dune saga although his sons efforts do ruin the ending somewhat.

    also enjoy some King stuff:

    The Stand
    It
    Tommyknockers

I used to enjoy fantasy books and really liked Gemmel's Jon shannow books but can't really get into them now.

Need to find a new author, am wondering about the Flashman series or some of the books by the guy behind Master & Commander

I've finished The Road and i'm now onto Peter Kay's new book.

I've read his first and found it hilarious. I've been reading this new one for an hour now and it has made me laugh out loud loads of times. Very very funny.
