Started to read a book called 'Sophia's Story' - it's a true story about Sophia who was abused/beaten/raped by her father as a child. He was convicted here in Ireland back in 1995. The story is about how the doctors/social workers failed the family as Sophia's siblings suffered the same fate and the mother was beaten too. The mother knew about the beatings but not the sexual abuse. But the services mentioned above did nothing to stop this - they knew about the beatings but not the sexual abuse. These kids are lucky they were not killed by the animal who was their father.

It's a good read but for the wrong reasons

Reading Coldheart Canyon by Clive Barker.....man, he is one sick puppy
As she lay there dozing next to me, one voice inside my head kept saying, "Relax... you are not the first doctor to sleep with one of his patients," but another kept reminding me, "Howard, you are a veterinarian."

11/22/63: A Novel - Stephen King. Typical King fare, but good nonetheless; would say it's the best book I've read in 2011.

Also finished Lee Child's latest effort in the Jack Reacher series, The Affair: not bad going, and it goes back to 1997 as to why Reacher and the army parted ways...

Finally finished Nelson DeMille's The Talbot Odyssey which is about American and Russian spies in 1984 - Jesus Christ, steer well clear. . Double/triple KGB/CIA agents, lots of telephone calls with codes and a ridiculous raid on a Russian mansion at the end where a load of British SAS die, complete shite

Absolutely no sign here at all of DeMille's talent or humour

Also finished 2nd & 3rd books in the Dexter series, Dearly Devoted Dexter & Dexter In The Dark. Brilliant stuff, if a little slow.

Currently reading Nick Hornby's High Fidelity, laughed out loud at the first 5 pages alone, great stuff

    Gone by Michael Grant.

This is the first in a series of books (currently 5) by Michael Grant which details what happens when everyone over the age of 15 disappears. It's a fantastic book so far and a real page turner. Going off reviews by others it seems a firm favourite. Well worth checking out if you are looking for something new to sink your teeth into.

I've read that many since I last posted in this section I can't remember.

Finished last week Stieg Larsson - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It's the first of a Millennium trilogy and although I enjoyed it, I reckon Scandanavian doesn't translate very well into English as I found out with Lindqvist's "Let The Right One In".

Good book with excellent characters, just started reading the second one, The Girl Who Played With Fire

    Sorted!

Sex on the Moon - A somewhat romanticised true story which although entertaining, I found to be quite inaccurate after watching the documentary on National Geographic.

Another good read, damn, you just can't beat Stephen King 1980's stuff: The Tommyknockers , thoroughly enjoyed it

Still struggling with The Girl Who Played with Fire and it's a tough read - if it doesn't pick up soon, I may well not bother with the third book in the Millennium Trilogy

Just finished Demon Seed for the fifth time, it's always a quick read and the only decent Koontz book that I know of...
