my dad in 1982, just after the proud acquisition of a 50" TV screen for his disco. the portable tv is for him to cue the videos before playing them on the big screen.also note the handmade decks with mixer, eq, and video controllers in built in, by him and his mate. he's even wearing a pre-howard jones style headset & mic. he had 5 discos and 6 other dj's but he was the boss and owner of Sole Kontrole Video Disco and he taught me to mix tunes, got me into hip hop and breakdancing, and i have spent my life thanking my dad for this and i love and respect the man for his influence on me as a young adult. and his stories of having 3 birds in a hotel he was djing at whilst watching porn on a cine projecter will always stick with me. not for the 3 birds bit, i was thinking 'how fucking big was this hotel room'![]()

the above picture is him coming out of a nearly twenty year retirement for my brothers 21st. he was using 2 pc's through the mixer for some reason, he refused to burn cd's for the cd mixer i got himnote my groovebox, i had pre-programmed a gabba style happy birthday for our kid, went down well with the kids and younger folk but the oldies there were most unhappy
i managed to play for 15 minutes (Wu Tang, Xzibit, Eminem, crypress hill) before being booted of the decks.
there is one story i have to tell, it might only be funny to me and my family but hey ho....
none of my brothers and sisters get on with my brothers mum and her family, and everybody knows this. they all hate all of us. always have and for many spurious reasons. so imagine the scene; the room is pretty equally divided. dads family on the right, stepmums on the left, mates in the middle. my dad was dj'ing and i was allowed an hour. i stepped up to the mic and said "this one is just for you rikki! love ya mate!" and dropped the first tune. i looked up and saw most of the room laughing and the left side of the room looking shocked and angry. i shit you not, i was getting daggers from about 40 people. had i had a bit of a think before i chose my starting tune im not sure i would have chose it. here is that tune.
